Ronald Koeman is the new Barcelona coach

The Catalan club made his official appointment on Wednesday.

The big moves continue at FC Barcelona. Two days after Quique Setién’s ouster, the iconic club announced on Wednesday the appointment of Ronald Koeman as coach.

The Dutchman, who is leaving the Dutch national team he led in early 2018, returns to a club he knew as a player between 1989 and 1995, which led to the first Blaugrana Champions League title in 1992.

 

It was in Catalonia that Koeman began his coaching career, as assistant coach to Louis van Gaal in 1998-99. His coaching career has taken him to AZ Alkmaar, Ajax Amsterdam, Benfica, PSV Eindhoven, Valencia, Feyenoord, Southampton and, more recently, Everton. At 57, he will lead the biggest team of his coaching career. His first task will be to define the contours of this squad, at the end of which there will be several departures.

Koeman, on the other hand, is committed until 2022. A two-year contract that does not allow us to imagine him in the long term on the bench of the Nou Camp.
